We’re excited about meeting and helping all our new students.  It’s clear those who take the bowhunter education class are far more likely to be successful than those who have not. It’s a very gratifying experience knowing you’re making a real difference. We encourage all those who are interested to please contact us and we’ll make every effort to get you connected with a class near you.

Happy hunting and shoot straight!

 Bowhunter Education in Washington

Bowhunter Education is not a mandatory program in Washington State.  Any hunter with a valid hunting license can purchase archery tags and hunt game with archery tackle in Washington.  If you were born after January 1, 1972, you must successfully complete a Hunter Education course before you can purchase a Washington State hunting license.
Have you ever found yourself in a dubious ethical situation while hunting?  Have you been unsure of how to hunt a particular terrain or area?  Do you know your effective range? Do you ever wish that you knew just a bit more about bowhunting and the skills necessary to take game with archery tackle? You may benefit from taking a National Bowhunter Education Foundation course!
Bowhunter education is required for several popular hunting destinations including Idaho, Montana and the bow-only areas of Alaska, as well as three Canadian provinces and a number of mid-western and eastern states.  Statistically, NBEF-certified hunters are about twice as successful as non-certified bowhunters.
NBEF-certified volunteers teach bowhunter education.  The certified course curriculum consists of approximately 12 hours of classroom and field instruction including:
•    Big game anatomy
•    Determining your effective range
•    Tracking and scouting game
•    Methods of bowhunting
•    Hunting laws and regulations
•    Care of your game and field dressing
•    Survival and first-aid
•    Your responsibilities as a bowhunter
•    Hunters, anti-hunters and non-hunters
•    The Unwritten Law of Bowhunting
•    Estimating range
•    Blood-trailing
•    Tree stand use and safety
•    Using a map and compass
•    Judging when to take a shot and when to wait

While most NBEF courses take several days, Washington now has an NBEF Distance Learning Program, which allows you to take the classroom portion of the course online.  When you’ve successfully completed this portion, you can contact a Washington NBEF instructor and arrange to complete the Field Exercises portion of the course in a single day.  To preview or take the Distance Learning Program, click on the link on our navigation sidebar.
